RV Adviser GPT is approaching the end of the road, but RV Adviser itself isn't going away.
OpenAI has announced that custom GPTs will be retired on December 11, 2026. After that date, the current RV Adviser GPT will no longer be available to much of the community that has been using it.
I had already been working on a major update. That work has now shifted in a different direction.
Rather than trying to rebuild the same GPT somewhere else, I am developing a new RV Adviser web app that addresses the weaknesses of the current version.
It will also become part of a larger project called RV Toolkit, a collection of practical apps and utilities for RVers.
A Better Way to Ask RV Questions
One of the biggest weaknesses of AI is simple: the quality of the answer often depends on the quality of the question.
That can be a problem when you're dealing with an RV issue and don't know which details matter.
The new RV Adviser helps with that.
It can use stored information about your RV, then guide you through the additional details needed for your particular question or problem. It uses that information to build a much better prompt before anything is sent to the AI.
You won't need to figure out how to write the perfect prompt yourself.
Answers That Better Match the User
The current RV Adviser usually gives a fairly general response unless you specifically ask for something different.
The new version lets you identify your RV experience level and how detailed you want the answer to be.
Someone new to RVing may want a simple explanation and a few clear next steps. A more experienced owner may want technical detail, possible causes and a deeper troubleshooting approach.
You can prepare the request differently for each with a simple click.
Use the AI You Prefer
The current RV Adviser works only inside ChatGPT.
The new version won't.
You will be able to choose ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot or Google Gemini, and RV Adviser will prepare the prompt for the AI system you select.
RV Adviser handles the preparation. Your chosen AI provides the response.
That also means the future of RV Adviser is no longer tied to one AI platform.
A More Useful Interface
The current GPT interface does the job, but it is basically a chat window.
The new RV Adviser will feel more like a regular website.
You will work through pages, forms and simple controls to provide information and choose how you want the request handled. RV Adviser will then create the finished prompt for you.
The AI part becomes straightforward: copy the prepared request into your preferred AI and process it.
RV Adviser Is Becoming Part of Something Bigger
The new RV Toolkit will bring together a number of specialized apps and utilities intended to help RVers with everyday ownership, operation, safety and problem-solving.
RV Adviser will be one of the main apps in that collection.
And because RV Toolkit is web-based, its apps—including RV Adviser—will work on virtually any internet-enabled device, whether you're using a desktop computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone.
So December 11 will mark the retirement of RV Adviser GPT, but it won't mark the end of RV Adviser.
It is really the point where RV Adviser moves beyond being a custom GPT and becomes something much more flexible.
